I now felt it would be professional to create a holder for my Business cards.
IDEA ONE:
With this idea i took a different approach to the consept of a
‘holder’ experimenting with the idea of a more case-like accessory
for the card.
like any other design, i also face limitation with my choice of
material so it is important for this design to function well in
whatever i happen to use, which is typically Card.
Overall i like this design as its simple, easy in construction and has
a very basic NET.
I would say this design has the capabilities as more of a ‘gimmick’
in use as it doesnt entirely fit the purpose requirement to be a
‘holder’ as such. It does however appear sleek and professional
in its appearance.
Below you can see several variations i created, including use of
colours, the positioning of the gap for the fingers and several
cuttings crafted into the design.
IDEA TWO:
This Holder, inspired by the sourced design seen
above, is a simple yet effective model.
One flaw in the general design is the holster where the cards are
actually held in place. Although being a genuinly good idea its
position on this model means having the cards in an ‘upwards’
orientation making the cards likely to move around, which i
discovered by designing and making a holder inspired by this.
However i found in a ‘business’ view, this design would be of use
as it is simple to construct and requires fewer parts, meaning
less in overall cost, but the aspect of ‘professionalism’ also
would be a thing to consider.
In the image seen (bottom right) you can see how i have added
an extra piece of card for support as i also noticed the actual design
struggled to hold its own weight, yet alone the addition of the cards.

IDEA THREE:
This design is a modification of the design seen above.
I commented on its flaw of orientation and how it affects the business
cards when on display, which then led me to alter the original designs
and orientation to create a much more ‘sturdy’ holder.
Aswell as altering the rotation, making the design shorter and more robust,
i added a small stand to the back, similiar to that found on the back of a
photo frame. This proved a more suitable stand but did show its weaknesses
under extreme pressure as more cards were added.
Below are some examples of the various designs i created.

IDEA FOUR:
Following the refinements of the previous
design i decided to take my ideas further.
With the ‘Structure’ being the key focus
i took inspiration from the shape of the
Holder from RYMANS STATIONARY and
how it neatly creates the entire structure
with just one piece of material.
One issue with the reflection of this was the fact that it was made of
a tough metal mesh, where i would only be using thin card. To
overcome this i decided to add more complex folds to the net and
to reintroduce the ide of a ‘HOLSTER’ seen in the original design.
The addition of this HOLSTER would strengthen the design and
ensure a safe hold of the Business cards when on display.
After messing with the NET i also had the idea of adding a ‘cut’ to the top of the holder - similar to that found in my first design of the HOLDER - to add an easier accessibility when taking a card out.
